Local Coach Celebrates Survival After Life- Saving Transplants

Joe Lafferty Received Pancreas, Kidney From 16-Year-Old Boy

PITTSBURGH -- On Valentine's Day a local high school coach celebrated two years since he received two life-saving transplants. Joe Lafferty, a longtime football coach at Woodland Hills High School, received a pancreas and a kidney from a boy who was killed in a car accident in 2010. Lafferty survived childhood cancer, became diabetic and later, lost his left eye to a staph infection.
