This Valentine’s Day, why not encourage your sweetie to register to become an organ donor? February 14 is also National Donor Day, a day to reflect on the great need for donated organs. Another person is added to the organ donation waiting list every 11 minutes, and 20 people die due to a shortage of available organs every day.
The Journal of the American Medical Association explains which vital organs can be donated. These include the heart, intestines, liver, lungs and pancreas, among others. Tissues including corneas, heart valves, and skin can also be donated. Remember that being an organ donor does not cost you or your family anything.
