Did you know that more than 50,000 corneal transplants were provided for transplant last year? Corneal transplants are surgical procedures which replace a disc-shaped segment of an impaired cornea with a similarly shaped piece of a healthy donor cornea. Despite the high number of transplants that occur each year, the need for corneal tissue is never fully satisfied. Corneal transplants are some of the most frequently performed human transplant procedures, and in an effort to raise awareness, we honor National Eye Donor Month throughout this month.
