Don’t take your organs to heaven – heaven knows we need them here

"Don't take your organs to heaven – heaven knows we need them here!" is the motto the Transplant Support group in Malta follows.

In an interview, the President of the NGO, Alfred Debattista, explained with tears in his eyes the miracles that this NGO sees in action every day.
Mr Debattista, who himself is living thanks to a heart transplant, founded the NGO twelve years ago, two years after enduring an 8 hour operation.

‘’Doctors gave me not more than 6 months to live due to heart failure. A transplant was needed, and yet I had so many questions and doubts about this transplant.’’

Mr Debattista was operated upon on May 9, 1999. Doctors told the man that due to this transplant, his life would be extended by around 10 years. Now he is 70 years old and twelve years after the operation Alfred Debattista believes that every day he lives is a gift from God. He prays for the donor and his family every single day.

"’The first thing they told me after the operation was to speak out anything that comes to my mind. I immediately asked to know who the donor was.’’
