Three scars on 23-year-old Heather Biggs' abdomen plot a roadmap to her heart, from which she gave an unlikely gift to a stranger.
On a Valentine's Day filled with paper hearts and chocolate, 9-year-old Jaquie Shaw received her sweetest present from Biggs, a young Memphis woman who donated her kidney to the child she didn't meet until the eve of surgery.
Biggs was nervous when she met the girl from Jackson, Tenn., who stands on her tippy toes and believes in the tooth fairy. Before long, Jaquie wrapped her tiny arms around Biggs' neck in a child-sized thank-you hug for something unheard of in the lonesome life of people waiting for transplants.
