Nearly 490 people at a Phoenix high school recently registered to donate their organs with the hope of saving lives.
Horizon High, 5601 E. Greenway Road in northeast Phoenix, participated in the first High School Registry Challenge. The challenge, which ended last week, was put on by Donor Network of Arizona, a Phoenix-based non-profit working to increase the number of organ donors in the state.
"When individuals become 15 years and 7 months old, they can register as organ and tissue donors. However, parents make the final decision to donate until their child is 18 years old," said Diali Avila, a spokesperson for DNA.
