Texas mother's family grows through son's donated organs

When Ted Foster Jr., 20, died in 2009 after an accident, his mother, Sam Foster-Erler agreed to donate her son's organs. She and the recipients celebrated recently during a dinner in Oklahoma City.
As Sam Foster-Erler puts it, she lost a son but gained a family — a family that got together for the first time this month in Oklahoma City.

After working the night of Aug. 1, 2009, at Tumbleweed Dance Hall in Stillwater, Ted Foster Jr. fell from the back of a pickup and suffered a severe head injury.

The 20-year-old Oklahoma State University junior was flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City within an hour of the accident, but it was already too late.

“If he could have been saved, the timing and everything would have been right. I firmly believe that he felt nothing and the angels flew him up instantaneously,” Foster-Erler, said.
