Becoming an organ donor is as simple are walking into the Secretary of State office

WXYZ TV Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Right now nearly 3,000 people here in the great state of Michigan are waiting for an organ transplant, but if we all do our part we can make that number disappear.

All this week on 7 Action News we have seen what the gift of organ donation can mean to an individual, a family and a community.

These miracles have come about thanks in part to a big push by the Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, Gift of Life Michigan and The Michigan Eye Bank.

In fact, 42,000 people in Michigan joined the state's organ donor registry in March of this year, that's up 62% compared to March of last year.

Johnson launched a statewide policy where branch employees ask every customer about adding their name to the registry.

It only takes a few minutes to add your name into the system and have a simple heart sticker added to your drivers license and you're done.

Your life saving action can save up to eight lives and may enhance the lives of more than 50 people. Anyone can donate.
