From Broome County Clerk's Office:
Center for Donation & Transplant (CDT) will be partnering with The New York State Association of County Clerks (NYSACC), New York Alliance for Donation (NYAD), and the Lions Eye Bank at Albany (LEB) during the month of April to promote organ, eye and tissue donation. This program is responsible for saving and improving the lives of thousands of New Yorkers in dire need of transplants.
“April is the 10th annual National Donate Life month, and we are pleased to promote saving lives and working with CDT and NYAD to encourage our fellow New Yorkers to register as organ, eye and tissue donors,” Broome County Clerk Richard Blythe said, “the clerks are excited to be involved with this very important program.”
Currently, only 18% of potential donors are enrolled in the New York State Donate Life Registry, almost three times below the national average of 43%. New Yorkers make up 10% of those on the transplant list, with over 113,000 men, women and children waiting for potentially life saving transplants in the United States.
NYSACC will be placing enrollment brochures in DMVs throughout the state, informing patrons about their ability to sign up on the New York State Donate Life registry. Interested customers can also enroll by signing the organ donor box on any license or non driver ID card transaction (MV-44, MV-2) or if renewing through the mail, using form MV-2L.
