Earlier this year, 9-year-old Jaquilyn Shaw got the news she had been waiting a long time to hear. A match had been found for a kidney donor — 23-year-old Heather Biggs. Soon after the news came, Jaquilyn traveled to Memphis to have the transplant.
Now the third-grader at Nova Elementary is in recovery and seems to be doing well, said her cousin and guardian, Jessica Shaw.
“She’s doing really well,” Shaw said. “The next thing is making sure everything stays good and getting help through the National Foundation for Transplants to get donations to help pay for medicine to keep her kidney from being rejected.”
To learn more about donating to Jaquilyn’s fund, visit www.transplant.org and type in her name to find her page. The site explains how to donate toward continuing medical costs, Shaw said.
