Go blue and green for organ donation Campaign aims to add 20 million in 2012

The Charlotte Post | Herbert L. White

Rock your blue and green to support organ donation.

LifeShare of the Carolinas is sponsoring National Donate Life Blue and Green Day on April 20 to register 20 million new organ donors in 2012. The 10 best combinations of green and blue posted to the Donate Life Facebook page that day will earn $100. Area residents who post their best photos to LifeShare of the Carolinas Facebook page will win T-shirts and movie tickets.

LifeShare, a regional organ procurement agency that serves 40 hospitals in 22 counties, is also partnering with business to highlight the need for donor awareness. More than 113,000 Americans are on waiting lists for an organ transplant with 3,500 of them in North Carolina.

The green and blue campaign is one of several national initiatives for organ donation this year. A Donate Life flash mob was held last month; a Linking Hands event will be held at the state capitol in Raleigh on May 22.
