Hoye, Taunton advocate organ donation with proclamation

The Tauton Gazette | George Winokoor
On April 2 President Barack Obama declared April as National Donation Life Month; a week and a half later Taunton Mayor Thomas Hoye Jr. followed suit.

Hoye on Wednesday held a press conference in the council chambers of the temporary City Hall, located in the former Maxham School, to deliver a proclamation designating April as Donate Life Month in the City of Taunton.

The purpose of Donate Life Month is to encourage citizens to register as organ-and-tissue donors to save some of the nearly 114,000 Americans awaiting organ transplants.

The mayor was joined by state Sen. Marc Pacheco, D-Taunton, and representatives of organizations involved in the process of encouraging or procuring organ donations.

They included Matt Boger, state relations representative for New England Organ Bank, and Lillie Laro, a supervisor in the Taunton office of the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
