Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White joined WJBC’s Jim Fitzpatrick to discuss National Donate Life Month.
Organizations across the state are working together to promote organ and tissue awareness. “The bottom line is this, we have about 5.5 million Illinoisans that have signed up to become organ donors. However, there are 5,000 people on the waiting list as we speak.
Each year about 300 people die because their organs have not arrived in a timely manner. So we ask if you are alive and well give blood, when you’re no longer here give organs and when you’ve done those two things you’ve mad a positive impact on society,” White said.
You can register to be an organ donor at any state driver’s license facility, by calling 1-800-210-2106 or visiting LifeGoesOn.com.
