Eighteen people die every day waiting for an organ transplant.
So for 18 hours Monday, more than 50 people will take turns sitting in a big, green chair at our station.
It's all part of a partnership with Lifebanc, northeast Ohio's organ, eye and tissue recovery organization, and our "Take a Seat for Life" effort to initiate conversations about the need for donors. April is also National Donate Life Month.
During the event, the Donate Life Ohio Green Chair will not go empty. Every 15 minutes to a half hour, new guests including heart, kidney, liver and cornea recipients and donors and their family members along with representatives from Lifebanc and other area agencies, will take a seat in the chair.
They'll share their own personal stories of donating and receiving organs and educating the public about the need for donors.
According to Lifebanc, there are more than 3,350 people in Ohio waiting for an organ transplant that will save their life. The event is also meant to implore all Ohioans to join the Ohio Donor Registry.
The colors green and blue are the donate life colors, so guests will be dressed in those colors.
The event will run from 6 a.m. to midnight Monday and will be STREAMED LIVE on our website; event banner will be located right on our homepage. Parts of the event will also be aired on our broadcasts.
