Organ donation gives second chance at life

ABC2 News | Linda So

April is organ donor month. Right now, there are thousands of people waiting for an organ transplant, their life depends on it.

Lauren Muskauski never pictured life without her dad. For every birthday, he would put on the scrubs from the day she was born. For every recital, he would buy her roses.

When Lauren was 19, her dad died of liver failure. It happened so fast there wasn't even time to get him on an organ transplant list.

Lauren says, "He actually got very sick very fast and was never listed. He was in the process of being evaluated and passed even before he really got a chance to wait."

At the time, Lauren wanted to donate a portion of her liver to save her dad, but he wouldn't let her.

She says, "He just wanted me to keep living my normal life and he kept a lot from me because of that, he didn't share a lot about his health, so when i found out about things it was when he was so incredibly ill that he was being rushed to the emergency room and put in ICU."
