Remembering Aaron

News Dispatch
Ivy Tech holds donor awareness program in memory of former student

MICHIGAN CITY — Friends and family describe Aaron Michael McNew as a bright and decent, kind-hearted young man who loved life.

He also loved his family and his friends.

A graduate of La Porte High School, he was studying accounting at Ivy Tech Community College in Michigan City.

Born on March 25, 1989 at what then was St. Anthony Hospital, Michael died at the tender age of 22 following an automobile accident.

He was first taken to IU Health La Porte Hospital and then air lifted to a South Bend hospital before he died on Sept. 14, 2011.

In life, Aaron was willing to be helpful whenever he could, his friends and family say.

In death, through organ, tissue and blood donation, he saved lives and improved the quality of life for 81 individuals, Marti Cooper, community relations coordinator for the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization said at a Friday gathering at Ivy Tech.
