Running with Tim
Last Saturday, my mom and I were given the great opportunity to ride on the Donate Life float as part of the 2012 Cherry Blossom Parade. The float was sponsored by the Washington Regional Transplant Community, an organization that we have been working with for the past 4 1/2 years. My parents have been able to participate with WRTC in the Cherry Blossom Parade in years past, but this was the first time any of us were able to ride on the float. It was such an honor to be selected to ride and a great opportunity to promote organ donation awareness within and beyond our community.
I was really excited to be riding on the float this year. It was my first time in a parade of this size, and it was my first time riding on a float. In addition, this was a big year for Cherry Blossom Parade. 2012 was the 100th year anniversary celebrating the original gift of the trees from Japan. Also, the parade was being syndicated for national television for the first time. About the only thing that was a little disappointing about the parade this year was that most of the cherry blossoms had bloomed too early this year.
