(Memphis) It’s a debate raging back and forth over organs.
Mid-South Transplant Foundation Director Kim Van Frank said last week, “There will still be enough livers and organs to care for those in the MidSouth.”
But according to Methodist Transplant Institute, the organ supply in the MidSouth will decrease by 75% starting next year.
Doctor Martin Croce director of The MED Trauma unit said there is no such thing as enough organs in response to Van Frank, “If there were enough organs than no one would ever die waiting for a transplant and that happens all the time, every day, in this region, in this state, in this country.”
Right now, the MidSouth is sharing organs with Tennessee Donor services which serve the eastern three-fourths of Tennessee.
That gives us here in the MidSouth access to organs across the state.
But starting in January, the agreement goes away; MidSoutherners will only have access to organs from the MidSouth.
