BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - When we arrive at Robyn Dekeyser's home, we come face to face with her new reality. A truck carrying oxygen tanks is parked in her driveway.
The 42-year-old wife and mother who's been battling cystic fibrosis since birth just went on oxygen. She tells, she was hesitant to go on the oxygen, because she knew it would make her less mobile than she planned to be.
It's a stunning change from when we first met Robyn a few months ago. She was unbelievably still teaching ballet classes at her studio in Brevard County with a lung capacity of less than 30 percent. She was once a professional ballerina herself.
But now, Robyn’s lung capacity has dropped to 19 percent. The situation is desperate, and she needs a double lung transplant.
Robyn tell us, "I can't go on another two months and dip another 10 percent. People don't live with that kind of oxygen saturation. Ironically, from what I've been told, it's been one of the slowest years for transplants being able to get donors. That makes me nervous."
Her husband Steve tells us wistfully, "So many aspects of our body that can be used to make someone else's life happier -- that can actually extend their life."
