MANCHESTER — While vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tenn., Karen Davis Harryman volunteered to attach herself to a zip line and soar through the valley.
The adventure offered a spectacular view. Problem being, she couldn’t see it.
Harryman, of Manchester, is legally blind, one of the many complications brought on by diabetes, which runs in her family. But she doesn’t let her vision loss stop her from engaging in thrilling outdoor activities.
She will rope climb and ride roller coasters. And when Harryman found out she could rappel from the top of the 28-story Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in an Over the Top benefit for the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland June 9, she raised the $1,000 necessary to take on the challenge.
The 82 rappellers who will cascade down the hotel building all the way to the fifth floor will be doing so on the harbor side of the building, offering them a pristine city view. Harryman, 50, won’t be able to enjoy it.
