Some siblings in Central are living with a disease that has no cure. Their grandmother died from it in her 50's, their father in his lat 40's. But this brother and his sisters are living a longer life thanks to an unconventional love connection.
Kerry "Boo" Conrad is in his element when he's making music at a gig with his band. But not long ago, that performing brought more pain than joy.
"For the first time in my entire life, I was not able to finish that show," said Kerry. "I was so weak."
About a year and a half ago, he was barely able to walk off the stage at a New Year's Eve show after doing four hours of dialysis the day before.
Kerry has Polycystic Kidney Disease, a hereditary condition that killed his grandmother and his father.
PKD is the fourth leading cause of kidney failure.
"It's cysts that accumulate in your kidneys and other parts of your body," explained Kerry. "During the course of our life, those cysts will grow and eventually - happened to me in my mid-40's, like you Donna and my sister Paula starting to grow in hers - grow bigger and push other organs in your body. And eventually they start busting and your kidneys start shutting down."
