LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -In honor of those who have given the gift of life and those who have registered as donors, Clark County declared April 3, 2012, as Nevada Donor Day.
Right now more than 113,000 Americans are in need of life-saving organ transplants. Nearly 600 of them are right here in Nevada.
Through organ and tissue donations tens of thousands of lives are saved each year.
The Nevada Donor Network has helped save and improve hundreds of lives last year thanks to 53 organ donors, 228 tissue donors and 612 cornea donors.
From January 2009 through March 25, 2012, 147 kidney transplants have been performed at UMC, Nevada's only transplant center.
