We are Margaret & Phil Petrosky. This is our ninth year working on the Lifeline of Ohio’s Dash for Donation committee and we are inviting you to join us and be a part of the “Gift of Life” in action in Downtown Columbus on Saturday morning, July 14th, 2012!
Our commitment to the Dash for Donation is rooted in the Christmas season more than nine years ago. Margaret, who was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 21, was in her twenty-sixth month of peritoneal kidney dialysis. We completed a nightly dialysis procedure using a machine called the “cycler.” We were trained in its use, connecting, disconnecting, and draining, and we became accustomed to its many beeps, buzzes, and occasional alarms throughout a 10-hour per night process.
On December 29, we received “the call” and Margaret was told that she was designated as the primary recipient for a kidney. The OSU Wexner Medical Center team was amazing in care and preparation of Margaret in a short and well-orchestrated time frame from arrival to transplant surgery to recovery. The surgery went well, and there was an immediate, dramatic change in how healthy she felt and looked; suddenly she was so full of life!
