
Couriers help deliver vision for transplants
The three men walk into the emergency room with purpose.
They wait their turn at the check-in counter, ignoring the chaos and rush around them.
When it comes time, the leader of the group leans over the counter and says softly to the receptionist: “My name is Nick Robinson. I’m a volunteer with Lions Club, and I’m here to pick up a pair of eyes.”
The woman behind the counter directs the men toward a door marked “Security.”
They knock, the door opens; the room is dark. An officer surrenders a cardboard box marked “Rush… Rush, Perishable” in bold, blue lettering.
The three make their way for the exit sign, smiling as though they have Captured the Flag.
In a visit to the ER that lasts four minutes tops, they step out into the evening light carrying someone’s future.
Every time Lynda Myers reaches for her glasses, she says a silent prayer of gratitude.
“Because I don’t need them,” the 65-year-old Beaverton resident said.
