Tamara Fisher said she wouldn't be a mother today if not for the David Foster Foundation, which is dedicated to financially supporting families whose children are undergoing major organ transplants.
Fisher's daughter Evanne, 7, received a much-needed heart transplant just five weeks after she was born and she had no means to pay for all the related expenses of the operation, which included travelling to a heart clinic in Toronto and lodgings while she was there with her daughter.
Fisher said friends and family encouraged her to approach the foundation and ask for assistance, and the foundation was quick to step in to help out.
Fisher and foundation executives were in Nanaimo on Friday to discuss plans and seek support from the local business community for their upcoming 25th Anniversary Miracle Weekend, being held in Victoria on May 25-27.
"I certainly didn't have the financial resources to do everything that needed to be done to help Evanne have her heart transplant, and we really appreciated all the help we received from the foundation," Fisher said "There's no way I can ever repay the foundation for the kindness shown to my family."
