A JERSEY father whose daughter’s life was saved thanks to a heart transplant has called on Islanders to sign up to become organ donors.
Hospital consultant obstetrician Neil MacLachlan says that doing so would be the greatest gift anyone can give.
However, NHS figures show that Jersey has a lower percentage of donor card carriers that any other region of the country, showing that just eight per cent of Islanders have signed up, compared to 28 per cent in England, 37 per cent in Scotland and 30 per cent in Wales.
Mr MacLachlan said that he thought the low take-up in Jersey was down to a lack of awareness, and not because people would prefer not to donate their organs.
