RECEIVING a kidney transplant last year changed the life of Bundaberg man Mark McPherson.
Mr McPherson was one of the organ recipients who attended a DonateLife Service of Remembrance at the PCYC yesterday to remember organ and tissue donors and their families.
But he said he had been through some dark times to get to where he was now.
"It really was a hard journey leading up to the trans
plant and it's been an incredible journey back to life since then," he said.
Mr McPherson lost his wife to cancer in 2005, when the seriousness of his kidney problem was becoming evident, and then had to look after their three children while undergoing four-and-a-half years of dialysis.
"That was a tough time, with the kids to look after," he said.
Mr McPherson said he had no idea he was about to get a kidney transplant until the phone rang at 1am one day in November last year.
