A Life That Lives On: Fatal Accident Victim's Organs Give Life

LEX 18, Lexington, Kentucky

It's been months since a Lexington native was killed while riding motorcycles with friends in Bourbon County. On Saturday, his friends and family celebrated the part of him that continues to live on, through organ donation.

When John Harnett crashed his bike into a tree while riding his motorcycle, his friends and family lost him forever. But his life lived on. His mother Sue, made for sure of it. "I wanted to pass the gift of life on, no question in my mind I wanted them to take what organs John could give," says Sue Harnett.

Sue knew how important it was. She's a double lung transplant recipient herself. "So I've been the whole realm of how important it is to give and to receive," she says.

Several people received organs from Harnett. Saturday, Harnett was one of many organ donors recognized at a memorial service.
