Marika Woltil received kidney, pancreas donations; ends years of diabetes battle
Behind Marika Woltil's beautiful smile and sparkling eyes lies a deep appreciation for the new life that she's been given.
“I wouldn’t be here if someone hadn’t decided to be an organ donor,” said Woltil, 31, of Apple Valley, who recently received a kidney and pancreas. “I have a new life, and I cherish every moment of it.”
For nearly half of her life, Woltil battled sickness and medical treatments that ruined much of her social life, part of her dignity and nearly robbed her of her wedding on May 23, 2009.
“I ended up in the ER the night before the wedding and I missed my pre-wedding party,” Woltil said. “I made it through the ceremony and I had to leave right after we were introduced at our reception.”
