The Spring Organ/Donor/Tissue Donation Awareness 5K Run/2-Mile Walk once again created awareness and funds for donor registration and the Jersey Community Hospital Emergency Room expansion.
In an interview last week, Patty Kallal, who coordinates the event, said this year's run/walk raised more than $5,000, although expenses still had to be deducted.
"There continue to be donations received," she said. "I would say by the end of this month we will be making a presentation of checks to Jersey Community Hospital ER expansion and to Mid America Transplant Services."
The event honors the memory of Patty's late husband, Mike Kallal.
"As a family, we are proud to continue this event in Mike's memory," she said. "The purpose of this event is to not only remember Mike but more importantly to keep the public aware there are many people on the transplant waiting list. The transplant waiting list includes individuals from our own community."
Patty Kallal addressed the crowd at the event and said there were many donor families in attendance at the race. The list of donors includes people from Jerseyville and other local towns.
