THE COLONY, Texas - North Texas parents who only had their son for 18 months are finding some fulfillment knowing he helped others whose lives depended on organ transplants.
Dastan Trant was a strong, healthy and active little boy. But all of that changed during a family outing to the park last week.
"When they said in a blink of an eye they mean in a blink of an eye things can change and that's what had happened," said Amanda Trant, his mother.
She said Dastan came and put his head in her lap and fell asleep. She soon realized he was not well.
Hospital doctors told the Trants Dastan had a seizure. After a few days in the hospital they determined he had no brain activity and would not survive. That's when his parents made a courageous decision.
"We both agreed. We both were thinking the same thing to donate his organs," Amanda Trant said.
"You have to remember where we were, we're in Children's Medical and are rooms around us with children dying," Eric Trant added.
Dastan's heart went to a 2-month-old girl. His liver was donated to a 1-year-old girl and a 68-year-old woman now has his kidneys.
