A Duluth woman is finally getting the very rare organ transplant she needs to survive.
Jessica Danielson has been waiting for a heart and liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester since last December. There have only been 113 such operations in U.S. history. Monday, she got news of a donor.
Earlier this year Danielson told us she found inspiration after seeing others go through the procedure. "It's amazing the difference you see in these people, I mean they look good, just days after surgery. they're up walking around, they're feeling great, and they can feel like their whole lives have changed=," she said. "And that excited me, you know, it's like, 'I'm going to get to know that feeling.'"
Danielson went into surgery Monday afternoon. The procedure is expected to take about ten hours.
Danielson has worked at WDIO for more than a decade and looks forward to returning to her job putting newscasts on the air.
