ELKTON – Four years ago, Jennifer Kampmann was in need of a kidney transplant after living with a polycystic kidney disease, a genetic condition she’s known about since she was a teenager. Then, at age 35, Jennifer’s kidneys began to rapidly decline as fluid-filled cysts began to develop on her kidneys, decreasing their ability to filter toxins from her body and other vital functions.
Although she was placed on the national donor list, Jennifer began looking for a living donor, as the national list could lead to years of waiting. Luckily, Jennifer didn’t have to look far, because her husband, Tony, was a perfect match – a rarity, as even blood-related family members often do not match.
Now, after many years after surgery, the couple is in great health and lives in Elkton with their two daughters, Shelby, 15, and Emma, 10.
Even though the Kampmanns are done with surgeries they haven’t forgotten about the transplant and continue to be advocates for organ donation. That’s exactly what Tony Kampmann is doing as he raises funds and promotes awareness for being a living donor.
