Homecoming queen Kelly Cooper received her crown Thursday — nearly three months late.

In October, while the rest of the Homecoming Court was walking across Panther Stadium, Kelly was recovering from a lifesaving liver transplant. Her turn in the spotlight finally came during last week’s pep rally in Cabot High School’s Panther Arena.

Days before school was to begin in August, she was felled by what would be diagnosed as Wilson’s disease, going overnight from preparing for school to being hours from possible death.

“Physically, it feels like it did not happen,” she said Thursday of her recovery. She returned to school in December, shortly before Christmas break.

She said she is becoming accustomed to the medications she will need for the rest of her life.
