A HERO father who saved his baby daughter’s life by donating part of his liver has urged more Irish people to become living donors.
Brave Martin Sweeney is one of the first people in Ireland to help another by selflessly offering part of a living organ.
A team of top surgeons in King’s College Hospital, London, told him how they discovered his two-year-old tot Isabel wouldn’t have had long to live without the transplant.
But after an eight-hour operation last month, tiny Isabel has been given a clean bill of health.
Delighted Martin said: “It is such a fantastic relief. It looks like she is starting to thrive. She has red cheeks. I’ve never seen her with red cheeks before.
“You feel helpless when your child’s so sick. Myself and Isabel’s mum Nikki are blessed I was a match. We’re the lucky ones. Obviously there’s no better gift to your child than saving their life.
