The Ninth Annual ALIVE fundraiser was held at the Michigan Design Center to benefit the Donate Life Coalition of Michigan.
The Donate Life Coalition of Michigan, an affiliate of Donate Life America, raises awareness about organ and tissue donation through education and outreach activities like this one. The Coalition works closely with Gift of Life Michigan, the state's only federally designated organ and tissue recovery organization. Nearly 3,000 Michigan residents are waiting for organ transplants.
ALIVE guests enjoyed a strolling dinner, beer and wine tastings and music by Guest M.C. Alexander Zonjic. Donate Life Coalition of Michigan honored Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, WDIV-TV4 Senior Special Projects Producer Sarah Mayberry and Dr. Stanley and Lenore Dorfman of Bloomfield Hills. The Dorfmans' granddaughter, Shay, now eight, had a heart transplant when she was only four months old.
On July 17, the Detroit Tigers will once again host an organ donation awareness event. Tickets to the game vs. the L.A. Angels can be purchased by calling (248) 770-5172. In addition, the Donate Life Coalition of Michigan will be a participant of the 2012 Transplant Games of America, produced by the West Michigan Sports Commission. The four-day, multi-sport competition will be held at Grand Valley State University from July 28-31. For more information, go to www.transplantgamesofamerica.org.
