Marie Bell, a kindergarten teacher at Highland Village Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, has given more than just an education to one of her students -- she's given her kidney to his father.
KXAS-TV reports the teacher was inspired to help after 5-year-old Sean Smith was late for school because his father had been rushed to the hospital for a new kidney -- only to find the organ was diseased.
"People have said things to me like, 'You're a hero. You're an angel. This is extraordinary,'" Bell told the station. "And to me, it's not. I'm ordinary."
But Sean's father, Marshall Smith, disagrees, telling WFAA-TV that Bell saved his life.
"I'm excited because I'm going to get a second chance to live and be able to be a father for my son," Smith told WFAA-TV. "I didn't think that God made people like her any more."
According to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, Bell and Smith are both recovering well after the transplant surgery.
