National Civil Rights Museum President Talks Organs

WREG TV, New Channel 3| Candace McCowan
Memphis) National Civil Right Museum President Beverly Robertson is sharing her organ transplant story. On February 28th she received a new kidney that she needed after suffering from high blood pressure.

She said Friday the reason she needed the transplant is the same reason so many other African-Americans will need transplants.

“We have more high blood pressure, we have more kidney disease, we have more diabetes, obesity is higher in our community and all of those are exacerbating factors when it comes to needing a transplant,” said Robertson.

Now she is turning her attention to the organ battle raging in the Mid-South.

“We have two providers of organs in the state of Tennessee one is in west Tennessee one is Nashville, so right now we have access to the full gamut of the state,” said Robertson.
