Film explores bond, life with cystic fibrosis
Two heavy hitters in the world of organ donation visited Sioux Falls on Friday.
About 290 people came to the Washington Pavilion to see twin sisters who survived double lung transplant surgery after living with cystic fibrosis for almost three decades.
After the reception with Anabel Stenzel and Isabel Stenzel Byrnes, a screening was shown of Marc Smolowitz’s documentary. “The Power of Two.”
The film was released last year. It tells the story of the bond between the sisters and their battle with the often-fatal genetic disease, which is passed down through families.
Cystic fibrosis causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs, digestive tract and other areas of the body.
The film also tells of the sisters’ emergence as authors, athletes and global advocates for organ donation.
The women, who have traveled the continent to encourage people to become organ donors since their transplants almost 10 years ago, said the film is intended to shed light on the power of being an organ donor and the difference between the organ transplant processes in the U.S. and abroad. It also celebrates the gift of good health.
