TOYAMA (Jiji Press)--A boy aged under 6 years old has been pronounced brain-dead at a hospital in Toyama Prefecture, it was learned Thursday.
If a decision is taken to remove organs from the boy's body for transplant under the revised Organ Transplant Law, it will be the first time in Japan that organs are removed from a child of that age, sources said.
The revised law took effect in July 2010, allowing the transplant of organs from people under 15 years old.
In April 2011, organs were taken from the body of a brain-dead boy who was in his early teens when he died.
