BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- If you were to take a quick look at the Scott family you would think All-American: two teenage boys in high school and parents who love them dearly.
But from the since the birth of 14-year-old Ryan the family has faced challenges.
"He was born with a birth defect and he was put on a transplant list when he was two weeks old and then at four weeks he got a new heart," said Angie Scott, Ryan's Mom.
That surgery cemented the Scott's decision to become organ donors. Angie already was but Ryan's Dad, Terry wasn't. That's until Ryan needed a new heart.
"It was just one of those things after what we went through with the heart transplant I said, 'Yeah, I'm going to be an organ donor,'" said Terry.
Ryan grew into his heart and this past year he didn't even have to go for his annual biopsy.
