Flagstaff Medical Center

Donor Network of Arizona recently awarded Flagstaff Medical Center a bronze award for the number of donor registrations through DonateLifeAZ.org in the 2012 Hospital Donor Registry Challenge. This is the fourth year FMC has been recognized for its donor efforts. Coconino County leads the state in the highest percentage of registered donors per capita.
During April, National Donate Life Month, 54 hospitals and healthcare facilities competed against each other in the second annual Hospital Donor Registry Challenge. In all, they registered 3,729 people to be organ and tissue donors. Participating facilities were recognized with awards of gold, silver and bronze in theme with this summer’s Olympic Games.
“Donor registration is a conversation everyone should have with their families making their wishes clear in the event a non-survivable event occurs,” said Bill Ashland, R.N., FMC Trauma Program director. “Family members may be asked about organ donation in the event of the death of a loved one, so it is important for each of us to make our desires regarding organ donation known; even putting them into writing and letting other people such as a family physician, lawyer or religious leader know as well.”
