GIVING A GIFT: Kellie Boff, director of operations for the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to be the donor in a kidney transplant for retired Bullhead City police sergeant Mike Newman. NEIL YOUNG/The Daily News
BULLHEAD CITY — Mike Newman is a retired sergeant with the Bullhead City Police Department.
Kellie Boff is director of operations for the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce.
They didn’t know each other until Newman’s illness brought them together.
The 57-year-old Newman is in the renal failure end stage for both kidneys. If she gets a clean bill of health, the 43-year-old Boff will be donating one of her kidneys to Newman.

“Lorrie Duggins (from the police department) was the one who actually told me about it and she sent me the information on it to let other people know,” Boff said. “It sat on my desk and I kept looking at it and then I did a little research on it.”
Boff then “picked up the phone and called the Mayo Clinic.”
Being a donor is not a remote concept for her. Boff is on a bone marrow donor list, and has stipulated her organs be donated upon her death.
Considering she was donating to a stranger, Boff figured, “I’m sure it won’t even be a match.” After a blood test verified Boff was a match, she decided, “This was meant to be.”
