A MOTHER, whose nine-year-old son died after being knocked down by a car, has urged people to sign the Organ Donor Register.
Liz Docker's son, Simon, died of a head injury after the accident on a road near his home in 1994. Liz and husband Steve realised their son's death could be an opportunity to save the lives of others, which is why they donated his organs. Their action benefited six people.
Now Liz has spoken about their decision to mark National Transplant Week, which begins on Monday.
More people are being urged to join the donor register because three people a day die waiting for transplants. Liz, of Ashbourne, said: "Simon's lungs, liver, both kidneys and both corneas were successfully transplanted.
