African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans comprise 54 percent of those currently waiting for life-saving transplants in the United States. As that number continues to grow, Gift of Life encourages those in our region’s communities to take action and register to help save lives.
Each year on August 1, Gift of Life celebrates “National Minority Donor Awareness Day” (NMDAD) by encouraging the African American, Asian and Hispanic communities to discuss donation wishes with their families, friends and congregation members–and most importantly, to register as a donors.
As part of this effort to raise awareness within these communities, Gift of Life Donor Program’s Multicultural Affairs Committee hosts the annual Gospel Concert and Vigil on with members of the local gospel community coming together to help sing the praises of donation and help highlight awareness in the minority community.
