National Transplant Week Special: Heart Transplant - UK

The Med School Project

9-15 July 2012 is National Transplant Week. In support of NTW, The MedSchool Project are writing blogs on organ and tissue transplantation.

Pass It On
National Transplant week will take place from 9-15 July 2012. Its aims are to raise awareness of organ transplantation and encourage those who support it to sign up on the organ donor register.

I’ve already signed up to have most of my organs donated after I die, however, in Leicestershire, a staggering 82% of us have not. Nationally, it has been found that 90% of British people support organ donation, but under a third have signed up to be an organ donor, and unfortunately, the family must give the final consent and thus 40% of these organs are not donated.
