Hélène Campbell, the young woman who has been raising awareness about organ donation, was officially welcomed home to Ottawa today by Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq, who thanked her for her tireless efforts.

Campbell received a double lung transplant in Toronto in April and had been recovering there until her return to the nation's capital on Monday.

The 21-year-old woman made international news with her high-profile campaign to promote organ donation. She appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show via Skype and drew support from pop idol Justin Bieber through her account on Twitter.

Campbell documented her experience on a blog called A Lung Story and she's been encouraging people to create dance videos about being an organ donor and to upload them to YouTube.

At an event in downtown Ottawa, Campbell thanked the family who donated her two new lungs and said she feels great. Campbell said she feels as though she was rescued from a sinking ship and that there are many people on waiting lists for organs who are still on that ship.

"I'm so fortunate that I got that second chance and I was rescued from that sinking ship," she said.
