Painter and interior designer Herb Pulliam is in his element.
Singer-songwriter Robbin Thompson isn't, but he's game for trying something new, and he has the images to pull it off.
The pair are the star attractions in "Near & Far," a show in the Gallery at UNOS.
The exhibition, in the main lobby of the United Network for Organ Sharing building in downtown Richmond, features acrylic landscapes from Pulliam and photographs Thompson shot while touring the world during the past six years.
"We always try to pair someone established and someone new," said Lisa Schaffner, director of marketing and public relations at UNOS. "There's someone who has a connection to our mission and someone who doesn't."
Pulliam is the established and the connection. The Appomattox native and longtime Richmond resident has been painting landscapes for years. He developed a connection to UNOS recently when the son of friend received a heart transplant.
Thompson is the new. While he has a well-earned reputation as a musician — "Sweet Virginia Breeze," which he co-wrote, is an unofficial anthem for the state — he didn't start taking pictures until 2006. The art show is his first.
