Bill Ismer said his heart told him to learn to play the piano — and since the transplanted organ also saved his life, he obeyed.
Thirteen years ago, the Tampa, Fla., resident and former police officer was given a donor heart and a new lease on life.
“It was just . . . very natural” Ismer said of his uncanny desire -- and ability -- to play the piano after receiving a new heart from an anonymous donor. Ismer told the Daily News he also became clear on his purpose in life.
“I was given this gift and I needed to share this gift," he said.
Seven years ago, Ismer began wheeling his keyboard through Tampa General’s cardiac unit, entertaining patients and staff.
