Gift of Hope & University of Illinois Make History

Gift of Hope

The University of Illinois Chancellor and Vice Chancellor want to break the world record and you can help! Register at www.IlliniforHope.org!

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in conjunction with Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network, will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for registering the most people as organ donors in a single day (eight hours) on Sunday, August 26. The current world record is 765 registrations. We hope to make history and save lives by doubling or even tripling this mark!

This lifesaving campaign is a collaborative effort being spearheaded by Campus Recreation and the University Police Department. Staff members within both of these departments have been personally touched by donation. Robyn Deterding, Illinois’ Director of Campus Recreation, knows all too well about the importance of organ and tissue donation. When she lost her son, Teddy, 12 years ago in a tragic accident, Deterding and her family were able to provide hope and life to others through donation.

“Organ and tissue donation gave my family a bright light at a very dark time,” Deterding said. “I challenge all University of Illinois students, faculty and alumni to help save lives by registering as organ and tissue donors on August 26th. Let’s show the world that the University of Illinois believes in the power of organ and tissue donation and is committed to transforming lives, not only inside the classroom, but outside of the classroom, as well.”
